St Lucia Rodney Bay Marina and Marigot Bay
22nd Jan to 16th Feb
The sail from Bequia to St Lucia was lovely. We sailed north up the leeward side of St Vincent with a great warm breeze speeding along. St Vincent is really pretty from the sea with steep sided mountains not unlike the Pitons in St Lucia.
We saw a pod of Pilot whales about 6 or 7 just basking on the surface with young. Tony made a quick call for course change as we would have sadly ploughed straight into them.
Once we had changed course they seemed to hear us and dived deep behind us.
We also saw another Hawksbill turtle on the surface comically stretching its neck as if to say whose heading for me !
We saw the Pitons approx 3 hours before we neared them—majestic in their steep glory and lush vegetation.
We arrived back in Rodney bay and after a 17 hour flight delay due to pilot sickness , I flew home and sadly left Tony ‘home alone’, but no doubt going out to play with Ted and friends.
I returned on 7th Feb and met up with my old pal Ted, whom I met on my first Atlantic crossing in 2004. We had a couple of nice days together and with his fiancée Agnes from St Lucia.
We then headed down to Marigot bay to coincidently meet up with a friend and work colleague of Tony’s.
We moored to a buoy in the lovely bay and almost immediately spotted Barry and Sylvia walking along the shore. We had a very nice couple of days with them , enjoying their company and their lovely hotel at Discovery bay . We also had a nice day sail together up to Rodney bay for lunch and back.
Attached are some nice photos of Marigot Bay,
Tomorrow we are sailing to Martinique to explore the French Caribbean. Apparently Rastafarians who speak French is an interesting combination.
The sail will take around 4 hours and we are both really looking forward to moving North
Love to all
