Hi all,
Well in high season this stunning turquoise bay is impossible to enter……just tourist boat ‘soup’. So this is the first time w have managed to get any where near the two tiny coves which are like turquoise pools. The only way to these two tiny coves is quite a long walk through the wild countryside of Caprera island and then to follow rocky narrow pathways leading finally to the beach. This makes this location a major tourist attraction for tourists visiting easily by boat. We couldn’t get near the shore even in Sept and so we dropped anchor a short distance out but still in 20 -22 metres. Sardinia and the Maddalena islands have the most spectacular beaches to anchor, but where there is rock it is steep sided like here in Cala Cotticio. Our plan was to be sure we were set and take the dinghy for a short swim in the coves. With so much depth we needed a fair bit of chain down there which gives a big turning circle if the wind should change. We waited and monitored our position before thinking of leaving. After a while we could see that we were very very slowing dragging. So lifted and re set and monitored again. Same very slow problem. So without enough swinging room to drop more chain we decided we couldnt go ashore. We enjoyed the wonderful location for a while before lifting to head to Ziu Paulu to anchor for the night.
